Sugar Diabetes Treatment Recording

Sugar Diabetes Treatment To keep track of your blood glucose (BG) values, you have two options of Sugar Diabetes Treatment : you can write down the numbers in a blood glucose diary, or you can download the data from your meter into your computer and take them to the Sugar Diabetes Treatment track for analysis.

Sugar Diabetes Treatment

Even if you cannot write down numbers regularly, do so for a week before you go to see your doctor. Figure 5-1 is an example of a blood glucose log for someone who monitors glucose levels a few times a day. Downloading the data to your computer may seem like less work, but there are a few disadvantages to this approach:

  1. First and most important, your tendency may be to download data into the computer and print it out just before your doctor’s visit. This is not as helpful because you do not review data as it is generated, and so you do not intervene between office visits. On the other hand, if you write down the numbers, it is very easy for you review the data as you go along, looking for patterns and making interventions as necessary.
  2. Second, if you do not enter insulin dosage, carbohydrate intake, and other factors such as exercise that might have affected a particular glucose level, it is difficult to put the downloaded glucose values in context.
  3. Third, meter manufacturers each have their own software, and quite often the software does not display data in formats that are easy to analyze.

Even if you keep a pen-and-paper log, your doctor may periodically review the BG numbers in your meter’s memory if he or she believes you aren’t recording accurately. Sometimes people don’t write down very high or low glucose values, in an attempt to make their diabetes appear better than it is.

Sugar Diabetes Treatment Knowledge : How Glucose Meters Work

A glucose meter is a battery-operated handheld device the size of a pager with a display screen and a hole to insert a thin plastic glucose test strip, which measures about one inch by one-quarter inch. Most meters turn on when you insert the test strip. You prick your finger, you touch the blood drop with the tip or side of the test strip, and the blood is drawn up into the strip by capillary action. The chemicals that are in the strip then react with the glucose in the blood and produce a tiny electrical current. The meter measures the electrical current, which is proportional to the glucose concentration in the blood sample, and the data is displayed on the screen as a glucose number. The test strip is then discarded, and a new one is used each time you check your blood glucose level.

Sugar Diabetes Treatment Alternate- Measuring Glucose in the Urine

It is possible to measure glucose in the urine with urine testing strips called Diastix or Clinistix. However, because glucose appears in the urine only if the blood glucose levels are over 200, this approach cannot allow you to achieve the recommended glucose targets given in Table 5-1. Therefore, urine glucose measurements are no longer recommended for Sugar Diabetes Treatment.
